Review bridges the end of Georg Kargl’s work as a gallerist at Galerie Metropol and the opening of his gallery on Schleifmühlgasse in 1998. The exhibition and the accompanying catalogue summarized the events of past years, and already offered a glimpse of what is documented in this volume as continuity, currency, and flair. At that time, a foundation was laid for a program that first concentrated on the art of the 1990s, creating references to earlier decades and at the same time opening the way to then current positions. The new location was intended to consolidate findings, guarantee the continuity of the work, and as a permanent exhibition site provide the basis for a vital, productive engagement with artistic developments that would continue into the first decade of the new century.
