Rafał Bujnowski
Rafał Bujnowski, born 1974 in Wadowice/Poland, belongs to the generation of Polish artists who became internationally known after the democratic change in Poland. He studied at the Technical University and the Acadmey of Fine Arts in Krakow. His practice includes painting, video, sculpture, drawing and photography. He finds his subjects in everyday life, but doesn´t serve any genres; instead, his works subtly questions conditions, social places and mechanisms of effects in contemporary visual art.
Bujnowski participated in interational group exhibitions at e.g. Ludwig Museum, Budapest; National Art Museum of China, Beijing, Weserburg, Bremen; ZKM, Karlsruhe; Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; MUMOK, Vienna; Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts, Norwich. He had solo exhibitions at Foxy Productions, New York; Zachęta - National Gallery of Art, Warsaw; the Polish Institute, Paris, Art in General, New York as well as the Goethe Institut, Krakow. His first retrospective Malen was shown at the Bunkier Sztuki, Warsaw, as well as at the Düsseldorfer Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, in 2005.
